HOW TO PREPARE YOUR PROPERTY FOR FUMIGATION

INSIDE THE STRUCTURE:

  • Remove all items that are intended for human consumption that are not in airtight, factory-sealed containers such as glass or metal. These items include medicines, drugs, beverages, food, and items in freezers or refrigerators.
  • Remove all animals (including fish) and living plants.
  • Extinguish all pilot lights.
  • If you have gas, make arrangements with your supplier to turn it off and on.
  • Water and electricity must be on.
  • Unplug all types of heating elements, including those on organs and pianos.
  • Unplug all computer equipment and televisions.
  • Turn air conditioning units off.
  • Open all drawers, closet doors, and cabinet doors a minimum of four inches.
  • If you have a safe on the premises that is large enough for a child to enter, it must be opened and inspected before fumigation and again after fumigation before the structure will be released back to you.
  • Raise all blinds, open drapes, and open any attic accesses.

OUTDOORS:

  • Loose items that are within six feet of the building must be moved, including tables, chairs, and plants.
  • Move any vines that are attached to the structure, since tree branches and shrubbery may be burned or damaged.
  • Cut back branches, foliage, plants, and other growth far enough away from the structure so that the fumigation tent can fall freely to the ground.
  • Trim back tree limbs over the roof.
  • Heavily water all foliage that is alongside the structure.
  • Lower all awnings.
  • Remove fences that are connected to the structure. Our fumigation technician will consult with you on items such as trellises that may interfere with tenting.
  • Rake rock and mulch back from the structure’s foundation to ensure a proper seal.
  • Remove decks that are connected to the structure unless the deck can be covered by the tent.
